Malik is a multitalented producer, musician and performer from Detroit, Michigan. Malik has acted and sung in several touring gospel plays, including Sunday Morning and Where Is My Father. Malik has performed as a background singer and in concert choirs and live recording sessions with artists such as James Cleveland, Mattie Moss Clark, the Clark Sisters, the Winans, Donald Vails’ Voices of Deliverance, the Hawkins Family, Thomas Whitfield and the Gospel Music Workshop of America. He has appeared as a featured vocalist with gospel and R&B artist Ortheia Barnes, Rejoice Community Choir, Hartford Memorial Baptist Church, and as founder of several groups including The Voices of Joy and the group Love. His vocal career led to founding the band Planet Pluto in 1996, where he enhanced his skills as a keyboardist. Planet Pluto's members included fellow musicians Dwele, Siddiq (from Platinum Pied Pipers), and Cen Dervin (formerly with Black Bottom Collective).

He has been warmly received in performances on tour as a vocalist with Dwele, as a keyboardist with Paul Randolph, and in concert at the Hothouse in Chicago, just to name a few. Malik performed with John Arnold and Ayro at the first Third Party Candidate show (improv at its finest). He has entertained audiences at Movement 07: Detroit's Electronic Movement Festival (presenting selections from his new solo project, This Music Is Life), 2007 Comerica CityFest, 2006 African World Festival, 2006 Winter Music Conference in Miami, Florida with a special performance, The Pocket: This Music Is Life, 2006 Woodbridge Summerfest, Movement 06: Detroit's Electronic Music Festival (special guest appearance with Louie Vega), 2005 Fuse-In: Detroit's Electronic Movement (with Mike Clark), 2005 Motor City Music Conference, Movement 04: Detroit's Electronic Movement Festival (Painted Pictures), a very special solo concert appearance at Club Module in Tokyo, Japan in 2003 (featured artist, Beatdown Sessions Series), 2003 Movement Festival (with Dwayne Jensen), the 2000 - 2002 Detroit Electronic Music Festivals (with Mike Clark, Alton Miller).

Malik produced several poetry and music events at the Detroit Institute of Arts in 1999 and 2001-2002. The crowd-pleasing events featured original music & performances by Malik along with stellar musicians including Jerry the Cat, Siddiq (from Platinum Pied Pipers) and Woods. Featured spoken word artists performed including Ulysses Newkirk II, Khary Kimani Turner, Annodal, Aurora Harris, and Boogie. Malik was a featured artist in the Detroit Public Library’s Noontime Concert Series. His poetry and music performances have been featured with the poetry troupe EmRuop and in concert with the Last Poets, Gil Scott-Heron and Jessica Care Moore.
