Galaxy 2 Galaxy started off as a recording project. Now Galaxy 2 Galaxy is a band that was conceptualized with the first hitech Jazz record produced by UR in 1986/87 and later released in 1990 which was “Nation 2 Nation” (UR-005). The brainchild of ‘Mad’ Mike Banks, it was a way to have various musicians interact in ways that were familiar and yet different. Starting with jazz as a base and using techno as the framework, it was an exploration of not only the roots of musical inspiration, but of the future of that inspiration as well. The first project was called Nation 2 Nation and each following project took the concept further with World 2 World and later Galaxy 2 Galaxy.The live band, Galaxy 2 Galaxy formed under the same conditions, also incorporating gospel, house, funk, and even spoken word. After a compilation CD and a series of successful shows across the globe, the group underwent another transformation.

The new formation of Galaxy 2 Galaxy took the concept of jazz-infused techno to another level, taking a different route than the previous projects and performing live before releasing any music under that name. A blend of classic “X2X” project songs as well as opening with a new one made for an interesting performance, especially for those who were expecting a group identical to G2G. Perhaps even more surprising was their updating of the jazz tradition of reinterpreting standards with their take on Metroplex classic, “Starlight”.

Taking you on a journey from one musical universe to another, the G2G show is designed to show the connections between all these sounds histories and use music to show how close we all truly are.
