Aaron-Carl releases free EP and talks about it with Resident Advisor

Detroit producer Aaron-Carl has decided to make his latest EP available via his website, and it won’t cost you a penny to download.
The collection, entitled Electrevival, is comprised of two exclusive tracks as well as three new versions of previously released material. Speaking on his website in an official statement, Carl states:
“Dear Fans and Friends: I have a special gift for you. It’s a collection of songs that I put together for a project, entitled “Electrevival.” I want you to have it. Yes, I want you to download it, free of charge. It’s my way of saying THANK YOU for taking this musical journey with me. Feel free to share this compilation as you see fit. Spread the word to your friends… The most important thing I want you to do is ENJOY it! Some of these songs are new, some are not. But ALL of them represent various points in my life and career — the different paths I’ve chosen, where I came from, where I’m going… You get the point. So again… From my heart to your soul… Download Electrevival and know that I give this to you, with much love… Always, Aaron-Carl“
Of the new tracks featured, one is a remix of “If There Is a Heaven” by fellow Detroit residents Ican, whilst the other is a hip-hop collaboration with relative unknown Humility’s Hand. Backed by new versions of Aaron-Carl’s bona fide anthems “Tears” and “Down,” the collection is an insightful look into the work of the stalwart producer, who has previously released on labels such as Metroplex, Subject Detroit and Mahogani Music.
Resident Advisor caught up with Aaron-Carl by e-mail to get more details:
What was the reasoning behind the free release of Electrevival?
There are a couple of reasons behind the free Electrevival release… First, I wanted to give something special to the fans who have stood by me for so long. Second, it was a way to introduce myself to people who have maybe never heard me before—or didn’t know about the different styles of music I produce.
Do you use the internet much to find out about new music?
Absolutely! I love the internet and I think it’s a great way to discover new music.
What’s coming up on your Wallshaker Music label in the near future?
2009 is going to be a BIG year for Wallshaker Music, and I’m so happy about it! I have my own singles, plus new tunes from Inbetween DJs (UK), a slamming remix of Spanish R&B diva Irene B’s “Forgive Me Now,” an underground-style house gem from Lady Blacktronik (Deep Explorer Music), and that’s just the beginning! I’m also working in close association with Lubricated Records (Chicago), so definitely expect some BIG things from Wallshaker this year!
Humility’s Hand is a fairly new name on the scene, right? How did your collaboration come about?
I met Mitch (Humility’s Hand) through a mutual friend of ours in the gay hip-hop community. I immediately fell in love with his voice, and to make a long story short, I envisioned us being the gay version of Jay-Z & Beyonce! I had a major crush on him, and produced this song as my way of impressing him. Lord knows I’m not a rapper, but I guess it goes to show you, when you put your mind and heart to something, it works!
