Why You’re Seeing Less of Your Favorite DJs

…and live acts for that matter.  No joke, the airlines are a major factor in you being able to see X DJ play in your town.  Especially when it comes to any artist that needs to fly overseas to perform.  Click on the image and read about yet one more charge to go in the air!

That’s a silly post.

Do you really think a $10 fee is going to affect a DJ playing less?

Frankly, I think I am seeing less of my favorite DJ’s because the economy is crappy, quality house and techno get played much less, and hipster electro and minimal techno is run by a lot of new-school kids, which at least for my part, I am not interested in.

Furthermore, one can ‘play the dj fantasy’ for only so long before real life catches up to you - health problems, family, marriage, kids, mortgages, 401k’s.

It’s all high-tech beats until life catches up to you.

Mike, you make several good points! The airline situation is a piece of that crappy economic puzzle that you reference. Just a piece.

With the economy being as bad as it is, several relatively minor complications add up to more hassle, and so on the one side, yes, some of the good folks you may want to see get tired and figure the other things in their life, health, family, etc, can be better addressed by doing something other than DJing. On the other, the hipster scene can be a source of irritation for some, but in the end, there’s no one reason for the scene being in the place it’s in - or even existing.

Thanks for posting!
